About the position
Brock & Stout Attorneys at Law is seeking an Associate Bankruptcy Attorney to join our Dothan, Alabama office.
This position is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants to build or continue a career in consumer bankruptcy with an established and growing law firm. The associate attorney will work with clients primarily in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy matters and will be supported by an experienced team of attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and other professionals.
Prior bankruptcy experience is preferred, particularly experience representing consumer debtors in Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 proceedings. However, we are also interested in attorneys with strong client-service, communication, and legal skills who are interested in developing their practice in bankruptcy law.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working directly with clients, is comfortable managing a caseload, and wants to become an important part of a collaborative legal team.
Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Compensation
Pay is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and prior bankruptcy experience.

Responsibilities
- Represent clients in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy proceedings
- Review financial records, creditor information, income documentation, assets, debts, and other information necessary to prepare bankruptcy cases
- Review and prepare bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements, motions, responses, and other required filings
- Represent clients at Section 341 meetings of creditors, confirmation hearings, motion hearings, and other bankruptcy court proceedings
- Analyze Chapter 13 plans and work with clients and staff to address trustee or creditor issues
- Communicate and negotiate with trustees, creditors, opposing counsel, and other parties when appropriate
- Review case developments and ensure matters are handled accurately and within applicable deadlines
- Work closely with paralegals, legal assistants, and other members of the firm's bankruptcy team
- Maintain accurate and timely case information within the firm's case-management systems
- Provide responsive, professional, and compassionate service to clients experiencing financial difficulties
- Remain current on developments in bankruptcy law, local rules, court procedures, and applicable federal law
Required qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active license and good standing with the Alabama State Bar, or the ability to become licensed in Alabama
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple cases, deadlines, and priorities
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate complex legal and financial concepts in a way clients can easily understand
- Professional, compassionate, and client-focused approach
- Ability to work effectively with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and other members of a team
- Sound professional judgment and a commitment to providing high-quality legal representation
