Brock & Stout Attorneys at Law is seeking a Veterans Disability Attorney to represent veterans pursuing disability benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This position may be based at any of our 13 office locations. Prior VA disability experience is preferred, but attorneys with strong advocacy, hearing, appellate, or disability-law experience are also encouraged to apply.

About the position

Brock & Stout Attorneys at Law is seeking a Veterans Disability Attorney to join our growing team and represent veterans seeking the disability benefits they have earned through their military service.

This position may be based at any of Brock & Stout's 13 office locations, providing flexibility for qualified candidates throughout the firm's existing markets.

The attorney will represent veterans throughout the VA disability claims and appeals process, including reviewing medical and service records, developing evidence, preparing legal arguments, advising clients regarding their claims, and representing veterans at hearings and other proceedings when appropriate.

Prior experience handling VA disability claims is preferred. However, we are also interested in attorneys with strong advocacy, administrative law, disability law, appellate, or litigation experience who are interested in developing a practice representing veterans.

Our attorneys are supported by an experienced team of paralegals, legal assistants, case managers, and other professionals who assist with case development, medical and military records, client communication, scheduling, and administrative matters.

The ideal candidate is an attorney who enjoys advocating for individuals, communicates clearly and compassionately with clients, is comfortable analyzing complex medical and administrative records, and wants to build a long-term career with an established and growing law firm.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Location Flexibility

This position may be based at any of Brock & Stout's 13 office locations.

Compensation

Pay is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and prior Veterans Disability experience.

Responsibilities

  • Represent veterans seeking disability compensation and other benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Review and evaluate potential VA disability claims and appeals
  • Advise veterans regarding the VA disability claims and appeals process
  • Review service treatment records, military personnel records, medical records, prior VA decisions, and other relevant evidence
  • Analyze service-connection issues, disability ratings, effective dates, and other matters affecting veterans' benefits
  • Identify additional medical, military, lay, or vocational evidence needed to develop a claim
  • Develop legal and factual strategies for disability claims and appeals
  • Prepare legal arguments, briefs, correspondence, hearing materials, and other case-related documents
  • Assist clients with supplemental claims, higher-level reviews, and appeals when appropriate
  • Prepare veterans for hearings before the Board of Veterans' Appeals and other proceedings
  • Represent clients at hearings and other proceedings as appropriate
  • Review VA rating decisions and other determinations for legal and factual issues
  • Evaluate unfavorable decisions and determine appropriate next steps
  • Communicate with clients regarding claim status, evidence requirements, decisions, hearings, and appeal options
  • Explain complex VA rules and procedures in a clear and understandable manner
  • Work closely with paralegals, legal assistants, case managers, and other attorneys to efficiently develop and manage cases
  • Maintain accurate and timely case information within the firm's case-management systems
  • Manage assigned cases, deadlines, hearings, and client communications in an organized and timely manner
  • Remain current on laws, regulations, administrative procedures, and developments affecting veterans disability claims
  • Provide professional, responsive, and compassionate representation to veterans and their families

Required qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active license and good standing with a state bar
  • Strong written and verbal advocacy skills
  • Strong analytical and legal research abilities
  • Ability to review and understand complex medical, military, and administrative records
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases, deadlines, hearings, and priorities
  • Ability to communicate complicated legal and procedural issues in a way clients can easily understand
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Professional, compassionate, and client-focused approach
  • Ability to work effectively with attorneys, paralegals, case managers, legal assistants, and other members of a team
  • Sound professional judgment and a commitment to providing high-quality legal representation
