Short answer

A spinal cord injury can change movement, sensation, and organ function. Disc injuries are more common and still serious. Both need medical diagnosis. A claim looks at mechanism, imaging, and how function changed.

NINDS explains spinal cord injury as damage that can cause temporary or permanent changes. Disc herniation is a different problem: the cushion between vertebrae can press on nerves. We do not split “bulging disc” onto its own URL. See back injuries for mechanical back pain without cord involvement.

Function, not just a scan

Two people can have similar MRI language and very different lives. Functional capacity, therapy notes, and work history often explain damages better than a single image caption.
